hoofbeats drum

across lonesome prairie

room to roam

slayed by vicious knights

villains of false fairy tales

dragons haunt the sea

mountain etched on sky

sun leaves wake of orange light

trees gather nightfall

waves soft as whispers

a thousand ocean secrets

held in grains of sand

emu gives punchline

with impeccable timing

smiles at his joke

soft grass with sharp blade

cuts through coldest winter day

green in world of white

I step on to ride

An endless escalator

Straight up to the clouds

Sky flies down to earth

Cloud reflections float and fill

Distant mountain lake

The last of his kind

All alone in final years-

Found, and so soon lost
